VISION 1000
APRIL, MONTH OF GROWTH
Matt. 5.14-16; Pr. 29.2
PUT THE LIGHT ON THE STAND
Aspire To Be In Authority
INTRODUCTION
Attention
One thing that helps a man grow is his aspiration. A man without aspiration is a man who can never grow. One critical aspiration for a worldchanger is positions of influence. We are called to influence the world. We need a platform from which to do it. We are the light of the world but that is not enough, Matt. 5.14, 15. It is important to locate a stand from which to shine maximally. Positions of authority are stands upon which to impact our world.

Problem
Believers are often raised not to desire or aspire to occupy positions of influence in society. If anything, they are raise to be scared of them. It is as if it is sinful to desire such. Many believe such positions of influence can cause a person to derail. The church has no programme of preparing people for such positions.

Orientation
Only by occupying positions of influence in the society can believers – the righteous – impact society maximally and bring down the kingdom of God.

Purpose
To challenge worldchangers to seek to occupy positions of influence in their world.

CALL TO BE KINGDOM AGENTS
1.      We are recruits as agents for the expansion of God’s kingdom.
a.       God’s plan is to extend his kingdom on this earth, Rev. 11.15.
b.      He saved us to participate in making it happen, Matt. 6.10, 33.
2.      When the kingdom comes people rejoice
a.       The kingdom coming is things happening the way God wants it happen.
b.      God wants life to be beautiful for people, 3Jn. 1.2
3.      For this to happen, the righteous – those agents – have to be in authority.
a.       The person in authority represents the interest of his constituency.
b.      It is not realistic to expect a man to speak for you if he is not one of you.

SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION NOT FARFETCHED
1.      We live in a society where we want things to change for the best.
2.      Overtime, things have only gotten worse.
3.      We have straightforward and simple solution: put the righteous in authority.
4.      We have done everything but this: prayed, fasted, complained, etc.
5.      If it is true that things change when the righteous are in authority, does it make sense to do anything else particularly things that haven’t worked?
6.      You can be in authority in various places: family, school, neighbourhood, church, market, town, village, state, etc.

THE IRRESPONSIBILITY OF THE RIGHTEOUS
1.      If the righteous does not aspire to be in authority, he is being selfish and irresponsible.
2.      He is not doing all he can to make the people get the goods he brings, Pr. 11.26.
3.      It is our being in authority that puts us in a position of doing the most good for people.
4.      Some seek positions of authority for themselves. That’s not right.
5.      The righteous don’t often seek position of authority though they are most qualified.
a.       It is scary
b.      It is inconveniencing
c.       It is risky
d.      We don’t understand our assignment.
e.       We are narrow-minded and selfish (Esther, Es. 4). We are sent to the whole world.

THE DEVIL’S STRATEGY
1.      He guards positions of authority jealously. He need it to further his course.
2.      He makes sure those he gives it to are compromised.
3.      You can do church all you want but when you step into this arena, you will meet fierce resistance.
4.      Believers do well to channel their warfare efforts there.

HOW TO GET INTO AUTHORITY
1.      Become an authority. It was already light before it is put on a lamp stand. To be in authority, you have to be an authority.
2.      Check all those who are put in authority, they are masters at something.
3.      Distinguish yourself in an endeavour. Be a master at something.
4.      Make money, be educated, be knowledgeable, etc. Examples.

CONCLUSION
How many want things to change in our society? How many will change things in this nation if they can? How many are willing to do whatever they can to bring about this change? What position of authority are you aspiring to get to? How are you preparing yourself to get there.
