SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT

Not many people want to live the life God wants them to live. Not many people know that such a life even exists. People often settle for the life they could find instead of looking for the life they should find and wonder why they are so unfulfilled. This is so odd. Supposing your boss sent you to buy an MTN recharge card and you went around and could not find it, do you buy him a GLO one instead since you could not find the one he asked for? And supposing that your boss is God who knows that there is MTN card somewhere in town, don’t you keep searching and searching until you finally find the card. And if you have to go back to the boss, will it not be to ask for help to find the place to buy the card. People do not realize that God has a particular life in mind for them to live and, that for being God who knows everything, that life is available...

The craze in life is often about achieving success. But fulfillment comes not by achieving success but by achieving good success. Success is arriving but good success is arriving where you should arrive. If you are going to Lagos from Aba and you arrived – only that it was at Lokoja that you arrived – you will find that success can be frustrating unless destination is correct. Frustration comes from missing essence or meaning. Often in the bid to succeed, we ignore essence and end up with meaningless success. Listen to this: you are not looking for the goal you have set for yourself rather you are looking for the fulfilling experience that you hope achieving that goal will bring. If that fulfilling experience is not gotten, you will despise the goal. Who among us would want to buy a car if he would have an accident the first day he drives it. Which girl would want to marry if she would immediately become someone’s punching bag? Who would be interested in going to school if he would die immediately upon graduation? You see, it is not those things that we seek. It is the fulfillment we hope they will bring that we seek.

Strangely in life, fulfillment does not come by means of what you got but by means of the way you took. Life is a journey not a destination. If you want to be happy in life, enjoy the ride. To hope to arrive in life is an effort in futility. Any spot you arrive at in life loses excitement for you. Haven’t you dreamt to be a graduate, to be married, to have a work, etc. only to despise those the moment you got them and started looking out for something else? Satisfied needs, they say, don’t motivate. Life is a journey and because of this fact, the only source of fulfillment in life is the rightness of the direction you are taking. Make sure your direction in life is right. Have a great life. See you again soon.
